Dark Circles During Pregnancy : Reasons and Solutions

Many of the pregnant ladies gets compliments for their glowing skin. But, Unfortunately not everyone is blessed with that glow during pregnancy. There are superfluity of skin changes from which women undergo during pregnancy stage. One of the major and common skin concern in pregnancy is having dark circles and puffy eyes.

1. Hormonal Imbalance:

There are number of hormones which continuously change in your body when you are pregnant. These alteration are directly linked with blood flow in blood vessels and dilates more amount of blood. The softer parts; (such as area around the eyes, elbows, knees, under arms, breast, thighs) of the body become dark due to this effect. The skin around the eyes is very thin and gets affected the most and hence causes dark circles.

2. Dehydration

Hydrating your body is not only necessary for mothers to be but also for every age bracket. Lack of water in the body causes dryness and itchiness in the skin. The sensitive area of eyes gets affected easily which further develops into darkness.

3. Sleeplessness

A healthy person has blood which is bright red and it can be possible only by doing proper exercise. Doing exercise such as Yoga, helps in providing good flow of oxygen in the body. When the oxygen level is reduced then the colour of blood transforms to bluish tone and makes the skin look darker.

  • Consume plenty of fluids – orange juice, water, watermelon juice.
  • Do Yoga and meditation regularly – to balance oxygen level in your body.
  • Avoid aerated beverages – like cola, caffeine, soft drinks.
  • Avoid stress -  to get sound sleep. Also try drinking warm milk before bed.
  • Apply cold tea bags under your eyes -  it gives cooling sensation and relaxation to your eyes.
  • Apply rose water under your eyes – Dab a cotton ball in rose water and keep it for 5 to 10 minutes. It will work as a wonder.
  • Stay hydrated – drink at least 8 to 10 glasses of water everyday.
  • Avoid baleful cosmetics – It contains parabens which is harmful for your sensitive skin.
  • Use cucumber slices - You can also use potato slices to get rid of dark circles quickly. Applying cucumber or potato juice is also very beneficial for removing dark circles. Put some cucumber or potato juice in the ice tray. Let it freeze and then apply it directly on the affected areas of skin to get rid of darkness.
